PEARL HARBOUR
December 7, 1941
Video Summary: Just before 8 a.m. on the 7th of December, 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes arrived in Hawaii and attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu.
The American base lasted almost two hours. The extremely strong Japanese army managed to destroy 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and 200 of their airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were badly wounded. The day after the assault, the current American President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. Three days later, the Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States. More than two years into the war, America had finally joined the horrendous battle of World War II.
